Kodaikanal Hill Station

Kodaikanal Hill station is located in the Dindigul district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The hill station is situated on the Palani Hills of Western Ghats. The height of the Kodaikanal from sea level is 7200 meters. It is popularly known as Princes of Hills. It has cool and misty weather, scenic beauty of the rolling hills, and wooded forest.  There are many lakes, caves, temples, waterfalls, forests, hill stations, mountains, and green valleys. All these things enhance the beauty of the Kodaikanal.

Berijam Lake

Berijam Lake is a reservoir near Kodaikanal in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. It is located 23 km away from the Kodai bus stand and is one of the most popular spots in Kodaikanal. The lake is rich in flora and fauna. There are many activities like fishing, safari tours, and bird watching. To visit the Berijam Lake permission has to be obtained from Forest Department Officer, Kodaikanal. The time of the lake is from 9.30 am to 3.00 pm. There is no direct online booking process, you can get the passes physically from the district forest office. There is no entry fee to enter the lake.

Kodaikanal Solar Observatory (KSO)

Kodaikanal Solar Observatory is owned and operated by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics. It is located at the southern tip of Palani Hills 4 km from Kodaikanal. This well-equipped observatory allows tourists to observe stars and notice planetary movement in a much better way. Along with the observatory, tourists can enjoy the mesmerizing surrounding view. The visiting hours of the observatory are 10.00 to 12.00 and 14.00 to 16.00. No entry fee is required – admission is free. 

Tehyca

Pine Forest

Pine forest is the most visited place in Kodaikanal. The beautiful forest is located in the southwest of Kodaikanal.  This is the best place for horse riding, walking, and photography. H D Bryant started the development of pine forest plantations all over the Kodaikanal. Thousands of pine tree dots the landscape making it a top attraction for travelers. This place is always crowded with tourists. The time of the Pine Forest is 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. No entry fee is required to visit the pine forest.

Chocolate Factory

Along with the beautiful hill station, Kodaikanal is famous for delicious homemade chocolates.  There are many chocolate factories in Kodaikanal. Some of the famous chocolate factories in Kodaikanal are Kodai Chocolate Factory, The Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory, Macofa Chocolate Factory, and Hi Rich Chocolate Factory. Hi – Rich Chocolate Factory is a wholesale trader of Eucalyptus Oil, Chocolate Candies, and Chocolate Bars.  You can visit the chocolate factory and enjoy the taste of different types of chocolate like white chocolate.   

Vattakanal

Vattakanal is a charming little hill station in the Western Ghats. It has spectacular views of Kodaikanal Hills and beautiful waterfalls.  It is famous for umpteen homestays and resorts. The top attraction in Vattakanal is Dolphin’s Nose. A dolphin’s nose is a single narrow rock shaped like a dolphin’s nose. The rock is just out from the edge of the cliff and overlooks the valley below.  Vattakanal has a large Israeli population. Therefore, it is called “Little Israel Of India”.  It is also known as Vatta among backpackers.

Poombarai Village

Poombarai is a picturesque small village in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is situated at a height of 1920 meters from sea level. A small village is famous for its production of garlic. The distance between Poombarai and Kodaikanal is 18 km. The places to visit in Poombarai are Viewpoint, Mannavanur Lake, Sri Kuzhanthai Velleper Temple or Murugan Temple, and Barijam Lake. From Viewpoint, you can get the entire view of Poombarai village.

Pillar Rock

Pillar rocks in Kodaikanal have naturally formed rocks. These are constituting three granite boulders and each has a height of 400 feet standing shoulder to shoulder amidst an untouched packet of dense rainforest.  The rock looks amazing and adds to the beauty of the Kodaikanal. These rocks have a fascinating history and top tourist attractions. These are located at a distance of 8 km from the lake. The entry timing to rock is from 9 am to 4 pm. An entry fee of INR 5 is required to visit the rock.

Dolphin Nose

Dolphin’s Nose is a viewpoint located at a distance of 12 km from Coonoor. It is situated at a height of 1500 above sea level. It offers the best valley view. To visit Dolphin’s None an entry of INR 15 is required. The visiting time of the nose is from 9 am to 6 pm. It is one of the famous tourist spots in Kodaikanal.  It got the name after its shape like Dolphin’s nose.

Mannavanur Village

Mannavanur village is located at a distance of 34 km from Kodaikanal. It is inside the sheep farm. Mannavanur has a heart-shaped lake.  It is said that a few wide animals can be spotted there. The lake is very clean and surrounded by grassland. Kodaikanal Mannavanur Eco-Tourism Center has launched the first Zipline service over a lake. Mannavanur Lake can be reached by bus or taxi.  Mannavanur Lake is one of the most serene places that you can visit on your trip to Kodaikanal.
