The best places to visit in Tawang are Tawang Monastery, Panga Teng Tso Lake, Taktsang Gompa, Giant Buddha Statue, Chagzam Bridge, Sela Pass, Bum La Pass, Sungester Lake, War memorial, Nuranang Fall, Gorsom Chorten, and Nagula lake. Tawang is a town in Arunachal Pradesh state of India located at an elevation of 3048 meters.

The distance of Tawang from Bomdila is 185 km and from Guwahati is 488 km.  The area of the Tawang district is 2172 square meters. Tawang also known as Namgyal Lhaste. It is one of the most visited destinations in northeast India. Tawang offers rich Buddhist culture, history, monasteries, lakes, snowfalls, waterfalls, valleys, snowcapped mountains, and natural beauty.

Tawang Monastery

Tawang Monastery is a Buddhist temple located in Arunachal Pradesh of India. It is the largest Buddhist monastery in India and the second-largest in the world after Lhasa in Tibet. Tawang monastery is known in Tibet as Gaden Namgyal Lhaste means the divine paradise of complete victory. Tawang monastery is founded by Merak Lama Lodre Gyamtso in 1860-61. The monastery has picturesque surroundings. It is a three-storied building in the shape of a hut, including an assembly hall, 10 functional structures, and 65 buildings inside the monastery.

Panga Teng Tso Lake

Panga Teng Tso Lake is a lake in Arunachal Pradesh of India. It is high altitude lake located at an altitude of 12000 feet in the Eastern Himalayas. The distance of Pang Tso lake from Tawang is 17 km away. It is also known as P.T Tso Lake. The lake is one of the interesting lakes in Arunachal Pradesh. It is one of the most beautiful places in Tawang. The lake is surrounded by blue lapis flowers. The P. T Lake is surrounded by a thick layer of snow in the winter season.

Taktsang Gompa

Taktsang Gompa is a Buddhist Religious destination in Tawang town of Arunachal Pradesh, India. It is a high mountain Gompa located at an altitude of 12500 feet. It is one of the oldest Gompa in India. It is considered that Guru Padmasambhava meditated in the 8th century here. It is a popular monastery in Tawang. The distance of Taktsang Gompa from Tawang is 50 km. The gompa is very near Sangetsar lake and the border of China.

Giant Buddha Statue

The Giant Buddha statue is a tall Buddha statue tower above the Tawang town in Arunachal Pradesh of India. The height of the Buddha statue is 18 feet in the lotus position.  It is located at an elevation of approximately 10,000 feet. It is one of the top tourist attractions in Arunachal Pradesh. The statue was built in 1860-61.

Chagzam Bridge

Chagzam bridge is an iron suspension bridge on River Tawang in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The length of the bridge is more than 100 meters. The distance of Chagzam bridge from Tawang town is 25 km. It is 600 years old bridge. The bridge is very safe to cross the Chagzam. The bridge was built by the disciple of the first Dalai Lama popularly known as Lama Chang –Zam Wangpo (1385 – 1464) was an architect. It is one of the historical landmarks in Arunachal Pradesh.

Sela Pass

Sela pass is high altitude pass located between Tawang and West Kameng in Arunachal Pradesh of India. It is situated at 4170 meters from sea level. It connects the Tawang to Dirang and Guwahati. It is believed that 101 lakes are there in and around the Sela Pass. Each of the lakes has religious significance to the Buddhist community. The winter season from October to March is snowfall time on Sela Pass. The distance of Sela Pass from Tawang is 67 km. The temperature of Sela pas ranges between 5 to 20 degrees Celsius.

Bum La Pass

Bum La Pass is a border pass in Arunachal Pradesh. It is located at an elevation of 15200 feet (4633 meters) from sea level. Bum la pass connects the Arunachal Pradesh of India and Tibet’s Cona country in the Himalayan ranges. The distance of Bum La Pass from Tawang is 37 km. To visit the Bum La pass “Inner Line Permit” is required which can be obtained by uploading ID proof, and a photo in the prescribed format on the official website.  The temperature of Bum La pass ranges between 5 to 10 Degree Celsius. Bum La pass is covered by snow throughout the year.

Sungester Lake

Sangester lake is a lake in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh of India. It is situated at an elevation of 3708 meters. Sungester lake is popularly known as Madhuri Lake after the suiting of the film Koyala in which she has played the lead role.  The distance of Madhuri lake from Bum La pass is approximately 15 to 20 km and from Tawang 30 km. The Sungester lake froze during the winter season. During the summer season temperature at Sungester lake ranges between 5 to 20 degrees Celcius.

Jaswant Garh War Memorial

Jaswant Garh war memorial is a war memorial located in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh of India. It is named after the Rifleman Jaswant Garh to honor him. He continues the service even after his death.  This is a famous tourist attraction. The distance of the Jaswant war memorial from Tawang is 25 km. It is must visit the place.

Nuranang Fall

Nuranang waterfall is a waterfall located in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh of India. The height of the waterfall is approximately 100 feet. It is also known as Jung or Jang or Bong Bong waterfalls. The distance of the Nuranang waterfall from Tawang is 40 km. This is must visit place in Tawang. Gorsom Chorten

Gorsom Chorten is a Buddhist temple located at Zemithang in Arunachal Pradesh of India. The distance of Gorsom Chorten from Tawang is 92 km. It was built by Lama Prathar from Kharman village. It is surrounded by Bhutan and China border. It is the largest stupa in the region with a height of 100 feet.

Nagula Lake

Nagula lake is one of the high altitudes lakes located in Tawang of Arunachal Pradesh. It is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Tawang. The height of the lake is 3048 meters.
