Mysore Palace Information

History of Mysore Palace

Mysore Palace has a history of the Kingdom and the Royal families of Wodiyar. The foundation of the palace was laid back in the 14th century by the Wodiyar royal family of Mysore. The first ruler of the Mysore Kingdom was Yaduraya Wodiyar. He built the palace in Paragiri aka Old Fort during his region. The palace was reconstructed multiple times. The old fort was built from wood while the current one is built from stones, bricks, and wood. The current structure was built between 1897 and 1912. Maharaja Krishna Wodiyar IV and his mother Maharani Kempanajammanni called the British architect Henry Irwin to build the new palace. It is believed that the palace is one of the biggest palaces in India.  

Lighting and Sound Show

The light and sound show is the main attraction of the Mysore Palace. For this show, the lighting of the entire palace is done. The program shows the 400 years history of Mysore through lighting, narration, background sound, and music. The time of the show is from 7.00 pm to 8.00 on all days pm except Sundays, general holidays.

To see the light and sound show an entry fee of INR 90 for adults and INR 40 for children is required.
