The Mahabodhi Temple complex is one of the four holy sites related to the life of Lord Buddha particularly to the attainment of enlightenment. The first temple was built by Emperor Ashoka in the third century B. C. The present temple was built in the 5th or 6th centuries. Mahabodhi Temple in Bihar is one of the major Buddhist temples and top tourist attractions in India.

The Great Buddha Statue

The Great Buddha Statue is one of the most popular pilgrimage spots in Bodh Gaya. It is an 18.5-meter statue showing seated in the meditation pose or Dhyana Mudra on the lotus in the open air. The Great Buddha Statue sculpture is made from stone. It is 1 km from Bodh Gaya bus stand and 1.5 km from Mahabodhi Temple. This is a symbol of the holy place in Bodh Gaya and one of the most iconic monuments. The Great Buddha Statue is next to the Mahabodhi Temple which is a world heritage site. The statue was constructed in 1989 and the ceremony was attended by Dalai Lama.

Bodhi Tree

Bodhi Tree is in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India. It is also called Mahabodhi Tree or Bo Tree. It is believed that Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment under this tree during 500 BCE. After achieving enlightenment, he becomes Buddha. Buddha spends the first week under this tree for meditation after attaining enlightenment. It is a large sacred fig tree in Bodh Gaya and is directly connected to the life of Buddha.   Actually, it is a peepal tree and its botanical name is Ficus Religiosa. It is said that the Sanghmitra the daughter of the great Emperor Ashoka took a branch from this tree to Sri Lanka.

Royal Bhutan Monastery

Royal Bhutan Monastery is a stunning Buddhist Monastery and temple located in Bodh Gaya of Bihar, India.  It is one of the most peaceful pilgrimage places to visit in Bodh Gaya. The Bhutan monastery was built by the King of Bhutan as a tribute to the Lord Buddha. The monastery showcases important instances from the life of Lord Buddha. Vietnam Temple in Bodh Gaya was constructed by the Vietnamese Government in 2002 to review Buddhism in India. The architecture of the temple is Vietnamese and looks attractive. It is situated near Mahabodhi Temple and behind the Kalachakra Maidan. The atmosphere around the temple is very calm and is the best place for meditation. It is a well-known place to visit in Bodh Gaya, Bihar. The Buddha statue inside the temple is small but beautiful. Vietnam Temple is a recently constructed shrine in the area and features a serene-looking statue of Lord Buddha.  

Water Parks In Bodh Gaya

Thai monastery stands out for its 25meter high bronze statue of Lord Buddha. It is the only Thai temple in India. The Thai monastery was built by a Monarch of Thailand in 1956. The time of the Thai Monastery is 7.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Metta Buddharam Temple

Metta Buddharam Temple is a Thai temple in Bodh Gaya. The temple has an outer shell of stainless steel and a decorative mosaic using the mirror. The temple has an attractive architecture with a white-colored Buddha statue sitting in the open air. It is also called a silver temple due to its silver color architecture. This was built by Thais.     

Tibetan Monastery

Tibetan Monastery is the oldest and largest monastery in Bodh Gaya. It is located near Mahabodhi temple. This monastery was built in the year 1938. It is a religious center with Tibetan scriptures and many Buddhist symbols. It houses with ornament statue of Maitreya Buddha. This monastery was built by Tibetans. It has Tibetan-style architecture. It is must visit place in Bodh Gaya.

The Tibetan refugee market in Bodh Gaya is a paradise for shopping lovers. The items sold here are generally warm clothes, textiles, winter wear, handicrafts, and souvenirs in varieties of colors. It is a colorful market. It is very near to Bodh Gaya bus stand. It is a seasonal market that runs from November to March end. It is also the best time to visit. It is a street market. Walking around the Tibetan Refugee market is great fun. If you are a bargaining expert then this is the best place for you.

July to September is the monsoon season in Bodh Gaya. The peak tourist season to visit Bodh Gaya is between October to March when the temperature is moderate and the weather is pleasant.
