The height of the cliff is 80 feet. The south cliff is quieter as compared to the north cliff. Varkala beach is the only place in Kerala where cliffs are found adjacent to the Arabian Sea. Munroe island is a jewel in the backwaters which is composed of clusters of 8 islands. Each of the islands is separated by small water channels and lakes. It is located at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and Kollada River in the Kollam district of south Kerala, India. The distance between Munroe island and Varkala is 51 km. This place is known for its pristine backwater, boat race, and lively rural life. Munroe is famous for hosting the Kallada Boat Race. Thiruvambadi Beach is Popularly called Black Sand Beach.  Thiruvambadi Beach is a serene and calm beach at Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, India. It is located 1 km adjacent to the north cliff. You can go there for walking. The unique feature of the beach is that its sand has black-colored sand. Varkala Aquarium

Varkala Aquarium is a government aquarium located in Thiruvambadi of Varkala, Kerala. It has beautiful collections of a large number of fishes that can be seen from walkways that spiral upward. The time of the aquarium is from 10.00 am to 6.30 pm. An entry fee of INR 30 is required to visit the aquarium. You can also see the scenic Varkala Cliff and the azure water of the Arabian Sea from the building. 

Kappil Beach And Backwater

Kappil Beach is a beautiful backwater beach destination near Varkala.  It is a good example of the combination of backwater and lake.  It is located in Edava Panchayat of Paravoor in the Kollam district of Kerala state. Varkala Tunnel

The Varkala Tunnel system is situated in the municipality of Varkala, Trivandrum, India. It is also known as the Varkala Canal. Anjengo Fort and Lighthouse

The lighthouse in Anjengo offers a 360o view over the fort, beaches, backwaters, and endless coconut groves. It is located at a distance of 12km from Varkala. Anjengo is now known as Anchuthengu. The historical fort has a nice garden with almond trees. Anjengo was developed as a signal station in 1695 for ships and cruises coming from England.  The time of the Anjengo Fort is 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Jatayu Earth’s Center

Jatayu Earth’s Center is a nature park and tourism center in Chadayamanglam of Kollam district, Kerala. It is a destination for fun, entertainment, and adventure sports. It has the world’s largest bird sculpture. It is spread over 65 acres across four hills. The center is located at a distance of 12 km from Varkala. The time of Jatayu Earth’s Center is from 10.00 am to 5.30 pm.  Along with the park, there are fun activities like cable car rides and helicopter rides. It is worth place to visit.

Chilakoor beach is located at a distance of 15 km from Varkala in Kerala. While driving through the coastal village definitely you will enjoy the relaxing feel. It is a serene sea beach situated on the coast of the Arabian sea at Chilakoor Village. There are some good resorts to make your stay comfortable.  It is one of the secluded beaches in Kerala and among the top sightseeing places.

Golden Island

Ponnumthuruthu Island is also known as Golden island. It is located in Anjengo lake. The distance of Golden Island from Varkala railway station is 7 km. The island has a long sandy beach towering red laterite cliffs, and pleasant mineral springs making the island most visited the place. There is a 100-year-old Shiva Parvathi Temple. It is believed that the Queen of Travancore Royal family used to hide their gold on the island. You can reach the island by country boat. The time of the island is from 5.30 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 7 pm.
