Spiti valley is a cold desert mountain located in the northeastern part of Himachal Pradesh, India. Spiti valley is famous for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. The temperature of the lake remains cold throughout the year.  The Chandratal lake is closed during December and you can not reach here by road.

Baralacha La Pass

Baralacha la pass is a high mountain pass in the Zanskar range. The pass connects the Lahaul district of Himachal Pradesh and Leh district in Ladhak. The pass is located at an elevation of 4850 meters above sea level. The length of the pass is 8 km along the famous Leh –  Manali highway. The temperature of the pass during the summer season is nearly 10 degrees Celsius during the daytime and several degrees below zero.

Pin Valley National Park

Pin valley national park is a national park situated in Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. The park was established in 1958. This is a cold desert area with temperatures below zero degrees Celsius and semi-frozen rivers. The area of the national park is 675 square meters. The park is famous for its wildlife reserve and is home to more than 20 species of animals. The park has rich fauna and flora including snow partridge, Raven, Golden eagle, Snow Cock, red fox, snow leopard, Chukor, Weasel, Pika, and many species.

Kaza

Kaza is a town located in Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is located at an elevation of 399 meters. Kaza is famous for its colorful festivals and Sakya Tangyud Monastery. Kaza is surrounded by high mountains, snowy crowns, and crustal clear rivers. Kaza is situated at a height of 12270 feet. Kaza village is accessible from Manali and Shimla. The temperature of Kaza in the January, February, and March ranges between – 10 to 5 degrees Celsius. The temperature of Kaza in the summer season is between 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. The summer season is the best time to visit Kaza.

Losar

Losar is a village located on the bank of Spiti River in the Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh of India. Losar is also known as Losar Khas. It is situated at an elevation of 13420 feet. Losar village is very near to Indo Chinese border. It is the first inhabited village in this area. The distance of Losar from Chandra Tal Lake is 20 km. It is the extreme end village of the cold desert region of Spiti valley. The best time to visit Losar is from March to June and October to November when the atmosphere is pleasant and warm.

Tabo – Monastery

Tabo is a small village in Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh of India. It is located on the bank of River Spiti connecting the road from Rekong Peo to Kaza. The Tabo is situated at an elevation of 3280 meters from sea level. Tabo is famous for its thousands of years old Buddhist monastery. The founder of the Tabo monastery is Rinchen Zangpo. The monastery has 9 temples, 4 stupas, and 32 chortens. The temperature of Tabo in the summer season ranges between -5 to 5 degrees Celsius.

Kanzum Pass

Kunzum pass is a high-altitude pass in Himachal Pradesh of India. It connects the Lahaul Valley and Spiti valley of India. The height of the Kunzum pass is 4551 meters. The distance of Kunzum pass from Manali is 122 km and from Kaza is 79 km. It is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Spiti valley. The pass is the gateway to the Spiti via Lahaul and Manali. Kunzum pass is one of the highest memorable passes in India. The best time to visit Kunzum pass is the summer season from June to September. During this month the temperature ranges between 5 to 10 degrees Celsius. During the winter season, the temperature drops to -15 Degree Celsius.

The key monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in the Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is also known as Key Gompa. The height of the key monastery is 4166 meters above sea level. The founder of the key monastery was Drompton. It was established in the 11th century. The key monastery is famous for its ancient murals, thangkas, weapons, and musical instruments like cymbals, trumpets, and drums. It is the biggest Buddhist learning center for lamas in Spiti valley. The distance of the key monastery from the Kaza is 14 km.

Spiti valley Temperature, And Best Time To Visit

The summer season from the month of March to June is the best time to visit Spiti valley. The weather during this season is pleasant and less crowded. The temperature during the winter season drops below zero degrees Celsius. The temperature of November, December, January, and February ranges between – 10 to -20 degrees Celsius. The months of July, August, and September is the highest temperature ranging from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius.
