Shri Amarnath Cave Temple
Shri Amarnath cave temple is a Hindu shrine located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, India. The Amarnath cave was discovered by Buta Malik in 1850. The Shrine is managed by Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB). The temple is actually a cave in the south Kashmir Himalayan Mountain. Amarnath is God Shiva. It is situated at an elevation of 12756 feet from sea level. The distance of Amarnath from Srinagar is 114 km and from Pahalgam 48 km. The temple is covered by glaciers and snowy mountains. The temple is open to devotees for a very short time of summer.
How Amaranth Shiva Lingam Formed
The Shiva Ice Lingam is a stalagmite formation at the Amarnath mountain. The scientific reason behind the formation of the stalagmite is the freezing of water drops that falls from the roof of the cave on the floor resulting in upward vertical growth of the ice. This stalagmite is considered Shiva Lingam a physical manifestation of Lord Shiva. It is believed that the size of the Shiva Lingam changes with the seasons. The Shiva Lingam melts completely a month before the Yatra officially gets over.

How To Reach Amarnath
The nearest airport to Amarnath is Srinagar Airport. Pahalgam is connected to Srinagar airport by road journey of 2 hours. The nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi railway station from there you have to reach Pahalgam.
You can reach Amarnath by walking or by Helicopter from Pahalgam or Baltal. To reach Amarnath by walking is a difficult and tiring journey. So you can hire a pony from Pahalgam or Baltal to make the journey easier. The second and easiest way to reach Amarnath is Helicopter services. The helicopter services are available from Baltal and Pahalgam helipad. Some travel agent arranges Amarnath tour packages which include transfer, meals, accommodation, and sightseeing.
Amarnath Yatra Route
The Amarnath Yatra start from Pahalgam. Pahalgam to Amarnath route is the most followed route by pilgrimage over the years. This route is scenic and easy as compared to Baltal route. The base camp for Amarnath Yatra is from Pahalgam to Chandanwari. The distance between Pahalgam to Chandanwari is 16 km. The distance between Chandanwari to Sheshnag is 13 km. Sheshnag to Panchtarni distance is 4.6 km. Panchtarni to Amarnath cave distance is 2 km. So the total distance from Pahalgam to Amarnath is 35.6 km by one way. To cover this much distance requires 3 to 4 days on one way.
Another route to Pahalgam is from Baltal. The distance between Baltal to Amarnath Cave is 14 km which can be covered by walking or by pony. This route is steep and difficult. But you can return back to Baltal from Amarnath caves by this route.
When Amarnath Yatra Will Start 2022
The starting date of Amaranth Yatra 2022 is 30 June on Thursday. The Amarnath Yatra will end on Purnima the day of Rakshasa Bandhan 11th of August 2022. This is Shravan month and monsoon season in India. The total duration of the Amarnath Yatra is 43 days. During this duration, you can visit Amarnath Yatra according to your convenience.
Base camp For Amarnath Pilgrimage
Base camp for the Amarnath pilgrimage is Baltal and Pahalgam to Chandanwari. Pahalgam to Chandanwari base camp is located at 9500 feet. Pahalgam has a breathtaking view of high mountains covered by snow. The pilgrimage has to reach the base camp ahead of the start of the Amarnath Yatra.
When Amarnath Yatra Registration Start
Registration for Amarnath Yatra can be done on the official website of the Amarnath Yatra Shrine Board – https://jksasb.nic.in/. After the successful registration on the site devotees will be issued a Yatra permit for the journey to the Amarnath Yatra. The registration is compulsory for Amarnath Yatra. Advance registration of Amarnath Yatra to begin on 11 April 2022.
Documents Required For Registration Of Amarnath Pilgrimage
The compulsory documents required for registration of Amarnath Yatra is a Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) issued by an authorized doctor, and four passport size photo.
Age Limit And Fees for Amarnath Pilgrimage
The age limit for the Amarnath pilgrimage is between 13 years to 75 years. As you have to walk at a higher height during the monsoon season, the pilgrimage is difficult for older people and children.
The fee for registration is Rs. 150/ – (Last year).
