1. Tea Plantation in Darjeeling

Darjeeling is famous for tea gardens and Darjeeling tea. There are   87 tea gardens spread over 19, 000 hectares of land area with 52 000 workers. Because of this large area of tea plantation, Darjeeling becomes one of the most beautiful and pleasant places in India. When in Darjeeling visiting the tea estate is a great experience.  The tea estates have arranged guided tours that cover the complete manufacturing process of Darjeeling tea. Some of the famous tea estates are Glenburn Tea Estate, Happy Valley Tea Estate, Makibari Tea estate, Ging Tea Estate, and Goom Tea Estate.

2. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway – Toy Train

Darjeeling Himalayan railway is also known as DHR or toy train. It is a narrow-gauge train of 2 feet. This is one of the few trains running at the high mountain. UNESCO declared the toy train as a world heritage site.  The toy train starts from New Jalpaiguri and goes all the way to travel the distance of 88 km via Siliguri.  The time required to reach Darjeeling from New Jalpaiguri is 2 hours.

3. Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park

Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is a famous tourist spot in Darjeeling. Every year more than 3,00,000 people visit the zoological park.  It is spread on 67. 56 acres of land in Darjeeling, West Bengal state of India. The number of animals in the park is more than 150.  The Zoo was established on 15 August 1958. The zoo is famous for its conservation breeding programs of Red Panda, Himalayan salamander, Tibetan Wolf, and Snow Leopard.  The other animals in the zoo are Himalayan Tahr, Blue ship, Blood Pheasant, and Himalayan Monal. Recently the zoo announced the birth of another adorable Red Panda cub. The timing of the zoo is from 8.30 am to 4 pm. An entry fee is required for entering the zoo.

4. Peace Pagoda

Peace pagoda is a Japanese Buddhist temple in Darjeeling. It is a symbol of world peace unity for the people of all races and creeds. It is built in Japanese type architecture. It is the tallest structure of height 28.5 meters and diameter 23 meters in white color.  It is located at 27H5 + @HQ, West Point, Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. The temple is open from 4.30 am to 7.00 pm. There are two prayers daily. The morning prayer is from 4.30 am to 6.00 am and the evening prayer is from  4.30 pm to 6.30 pm.  No entry fee is required to enter the peace Pagoda. It is located 2 km from Gandhi Road in Darjeeling.  

5. Happy Valley Tea Estate

Happy Valley Tea Estate is a tea garden in Darjeeling of the West Bengal state of India. It is spread on an area of 440 acres at an elevation of 2100 meters from sea level. It is the second oldest tea garden in Darjeeling. It is established in 1854. It opens for tourists from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm every Tuesday to Saturday. To enter the tea estate entry fee of rupees 150 is required including the tour. The guided tour of the tea estate offers glimpses of the fascinating process of manufacturing tea. It is located at a distance of 3 km from Darjeeling at Lebong, cart Road, Chauk Bazar, Darjeeling. 

6. Darjeeling Rangeet Valley Passenger Ropeway

Darjeeling rangeet valley passenger ropeway is a great experience for the tourist. The ropeway has sixteen cars. The total length of the ropeway is 5 km long. The journey through the cars presents a beautiful view of the Himalayan mountains and tea gardens. The ropeway is lies between North Point in the city to the Singla on the Ramman River in Darjeeling. It is located at a distance of 4 km from Darjeeling railway station. The timing of the ropeway is from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm every day. An entry fee of Rupees 200 per person is required.   

7. Observatory Hill Viewpoint

The Observatory hill viewpoint is a top tourist attraction in Darjeeling. It is located near the Chawrasta or the Mall Road in Darjeeling. If the weather condition is clear you can see the snow-clad peak of mountains including Kangchenjunga. The Bhutia Busty monastery and Mahakal temple are located here. The Bhutia Busty monastery is the oldest monastery in Darjeeling. The temple of Mahakal is a form of Shiva. The timing of the observatory hill is from 7.00 am to 7.00 pm.

8. Dali Monastery

Dali monastery is also known as Drukp Kagyud Monastery or Dali Gompa. Dali monastery is related to Tibetan Buddhism. It has Tibetan architecture with ornamental doors and colorful paintings. The art on the monastery, sculpture, and Buddha figure is Tibetan type.  It is located at a distance of 5 km from Darjeeling.

9. Tiger Hill Darjeeling

The tiger hill is famous for the sight of sunrise from the peak of Kanchenjunga peak. It is located at 13 km from Darjeeling and at a height of 2590 meters from sea level.  From tiger hill, the sun is seen at the lower elevation. The peaks of Kanchenjunga are illuminated before sunrise.  The distance between Kanchenjunga and tiger hill is 79.8 km. If the atmosphere is clear you can see  Mount Everest peak. The distance between tiger hill and Mount Everest is 172 km.

10. Batasia Loop

Batasia Loop is a spiral railway created to lower the slope of the ascent of the Himalayan railway in Darjeeling.  A war memorial was built at the center of the Batasia Loop in memory of the brave Gorkha soldier who sacrifices their life for the nation. It is 5 km from Darjeeling. You can reach Batasia Loop by toy train from Darjeeling. Batasia Loop is very near to Ghoom.

The approximate time required to reach Darjeeling from Bagdogra airport is 6 hours 30 min.  Bagdogra has direct flights from Delhi, Guwahati, Mumbai, and Kolkata. The flight includes Air India, Jet Air, Go Air, Spice Jet, and Indigo. 

By Train. The nearest railway station to Darjeeling is Siliguri or New Jalpaiguri. The distance between Siliguri to Darjeeling is 77 km by road. From Siliguri or New Jalpaiguri railway station service of buses, cabs, and taxis is available.  Siliguri or New Jalpaiguri are connected to the major cities of India.

By Road: Darjeeling is connected by road to Siliguri and New Jal Paiguri. Travelers can reach Darjeeling from Kolkata and Gangtok by road.  The distance between Kolkata and Darjeeling is 650 km. The Darjeeling is 100 km away from Gangtok by road.

Weather in Darjeeling –  The temperature in October ranges between 11 to 18oC and rain is normal. The temperature in January ranging temperature between 6 to 15oC. This is the lowest temperature of Darjeeling.  The maximum temperature for the months of November, December, and February are 19oC, 16oC, and 18oC respectively.
