There are many beautiful places to visit in Dharamshala and Mcleodganj including Cricket Stadium, Dharamkot, Dal Lake, Naddi, Triund, and Kangra Valley. His Holiness Dalai Lama lives in Dharamshala. The nearest airport to Dharamshala is Kangra Airport. The weather in summer is pleasant and cool whereas winter is snowfall time in Dharamshala. The distance from Dharamshala to Manali by road is 139 km and Amritsar to Dharamshala is 202 km. Dharamshala is a hill station in Himachal Pradesh of India. 2 days are sufficient to visit the Manali but if you are interested in visiting the surrounding places then more days are required.   

What Is Famous About Dharamshala?

Dharamshala is famous for its breathtaking view of snow-covered Himalayan peaks, lush forest cascading waterfalls, mesmerizing backdrops, stunning lakes, vibrant monasteries, colorful temples, cricket stadiums, and clear streams that wander through the valleys. It is also well known for the world-famous housing of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and for serving as a key exile Tibetan community hub.  It is a famous spiritual center. It has several trekking trails across the Himalayas into the upper Ravi Valley and Chamba District. Gyuto Monastery is one of the most famous monasteries in Dharamshala.

Is Dharamshala a Hill Station?

Dharamshala is one of the most beautiful hill stations in India. It is located in Kangra Valley in Himachal Pradesh at an elevation of 1457 meters above sea level. There are many hill stations around the Dharamshala like Palampur, Khajjiar, Kasol, Manali, and Narkanda. This small hill station is famous for trekking.

Is Dharamshala Is Better Than Manali?

Manali is famous for its spectacular scenic beauty. However, it is not fair to say that Dharamshala is not beautiful. Manali is well known for its natural scenery. Manali is located at an elevation of 6398 feet whereas Dharamshala is located at an altitude of 5800 feet. Manali has more snowfall, adventure in sports, and shopping markets as compared to Dharamshala. Dharamshala is less commercialized compared to Dharamshala and Dalhousie. You will see the Tibetan culture and spirituality in Dharamshala. Both have some positive points but Manali is far better than Dharamshala.

Is 2 Days Enough For Dharamshala?

How many days are enough for Dharamshala? Most travel agencies and travel packages normally take 3 to 5 days. But 2 days are sufficient to visit the places in and around Dharamshala and McLodganj. But if you are interested in visiting more places around Dharamshala like Palampur, and Kangra then plan your trip for more days.  If you are interested in trekking, then you plan for the days accordingly. It is better to plan a trip for more days to visit all the places around Dharamshala and McLodganj.

Dal Lake

Once upon a time, Dal Lake in Dharamshala was a famous place. But nowadays it is nothing but a small pond in the summer rain. During winter it dries pond surrounded by pine trees. It is located at a distance of 11 km from Dharamshala near the village of Tota Rani on the way to Naddi. You can get there by bus or auto.   Dal Lake is famous because of the area around it paradise. The Shiva temple is located on the bank of Dal Lake in Dharamshala. This temple is considered to be very sacred and is 200 years old. This temple is dedicated to “Lord Diveshwar” built by Sage Agastya.

  1. Dharamkot

Dharamkot is a city and beautiful hill station located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is situated at an elevation of 2100 meters from the sea level. Dharamkot is worth visiting place in Himachal Pradesh. Majority of the tourists visit this small village to see the architecture of the temple. Along with the beauty of nature many hotels, restaurants, hostels, and attractions make Dharamkot the best tourist visiting spot. The hippie culture of Dharamkot also attracts many tourists from all over the world to spend a few days or months away from routine life. Along with the hippie culture, it is a famous Buddhist destination in Himachal Pradesh. The distance between McLeod Ganj and Dharamkot is approximately 3km and from Dharamshala is 10 km.

Naddi

Naddi is a small village in Himachal Pradesh of India. Naddi is an abode of beauty. It is located at an elevation of 2100 meters from sea level. It is the perfect spot to view closely the beautiful Dhauladhar Range of the Himalayas without walking and trekking.  There are many hotels, homestays, and places available to stay in Naddi at low prices. Naddi village is the perfect location to see the beautiful sunset at McLeod Ganj.  It is also the best place to see snowfall in winter. The distance between Naddi from McLeod Ganj is 3 km. The weather of Naddi during winter is too cold whereas in summer it is pleasant, cool, humid, and warm.

Cricket Stadium (HPCA)

The name of the cricket stadium in Dharamshala is Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium (HPCA). The stadium is nestled in the lap of the Himalayan Mountain range. You can view the mountain from the stadium. The stadium is one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world. The picturesque stadium is located in Dharamshala, Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. The stadium is established in 2003 with a seating capacity of 23,000. You can see the stadium inside when there are no cricket matches. An entry ticket is required to visit the stadium. The visiting time of the stadium is from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Bhagsu Fall

Bhagsu Waterfall is a tourist attraction in Dharamshala. Bhagsu is a village in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Bhagsu is also known as Bhagsunag. It is very near McLeod Ganj and Dharamshala. The village is famous for the Bhansunag waterfall and an ancient temple. The waterfall is a paradise for adventure seekers, picnicking with family, and photography lovers. To reach the waterfall trekking is needed. The length of the trek is 7 km. The height of the waterfall is 20 meters. In addition to the waterfall, a Bhagsunath Temple is a spiritual addition to this village.

Triund

Triund is a small village and hill station in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. This crown jewel of the Himalayas is situated at the foot of the Dhauladhar range at an elevation of 2821 meters from sea level. It offers a large land of green grass, deodar, oak, pine, and rhododendron forest. The distance of the Triund from McLeod Ganj is a 9 km gradual trek. The Triund trek offers a panoramic view of Bhagsu village, McLeod Gang, and Dharamshala Valley. This trek is known for its undulating and well-defined steep trails that pass through the scenic forest of oak and rhododendron.  Triund is a part of Dharamkot.

McLeod Ganj

McLeod Ganj is a suburb of Dharamshala of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is located at an elevation of 2082 meters from sea level. It is also known as “Little Lhasa” because of the large population of Tibetans.  McLeod Ganj has majestic hills and lush greenery. It is famous for its home to the world-renowned 14th Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, Tibetan culture, monasteries, and the Buddhist pilgrimage center.  It is a hill station and trekking place in Himachal Pradesh. McLeod Ganj experiences snowfall during the winter season. There are many hotels, restaurants, and attraction that makes McLeod Ganj a world-famous tourist destination.

McLeod Ganj Tibetan Market

McLeod Ganj Tibetan Market is located very near to Dalai Lama Temple. The shopping experience in McLeod Ganj Tibetan Market is worth remembering. This is a great place to bargain and purchase local items of the Tibetan type. Walking through the market is the most beautiful walking tour. You will see the items that you have not seen before visiting this market. Several shops sell Singing Bowls, Buddha statues, Prayer Wheels and Flags, Local Tibetan Handicrafts, Jewelry, and Clothes. In addition to that several hotels and eateries are for your service.

Dalai Lama Temple

Dalai Lama temple is a Buddhist temple and abode of the Dalai Lama located in McLeod Ganj, Himachal Pradesh. It is a very big Tibetan Buddhist complex. The temple has a nice statue of Lord Buddha. The tourists are allowed to join their prayer, spin the wheel, and touch and take in and around the temple. The place provides a beautiful view of the valley. The Tibetan market is very neat to the temple. The time of the temple is from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. It is also the home of His Holiness Dalai Lama. It is world famous religious center related to Buddhism.

Kangra valley

Kharota- Kharota is a village near Dharamshala in the Himachal Pradesh of India. The village is located in the Kangra Valley surrounded by dense forest. It is one of the best hill stations to visit in India.  The distance between Kharota village and Dharamshala is 10 km. Kharota is known for its amazing view of the snow-capped Dhauladhar Himalayan Mountain. Kharota Camping is a very famous accommodation in Kharota. It offers a luxury tent, breakfast, and playground. Other than camping there are many hotels, attractions, and restaurants that make the Kharota best destination for tourists. Kharota Hill’s viewpoint is amazing. From this point, you can see the beautiful view of the valley.

Kerari Lake

Kerari Lake is a high-altitude, shallow, freshwater lake located in the Dhauladhar range in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. The freshwater lake is in the mountains and is surrounded by lush subtropical forests and alpine grassland. The height of the lake is 9625 feet from sea level. The distance between Kerari Lake and Dharamshala is 10 km. If you are eager to find a trek that is not so famous on Instagram, then the Kerari Lake trek is the thing for you. In the summer season, you can swim in the Kerari Lake water. The camping at Kerari Lake offers trekking guides, meals, and accommodations at camp.   Kerari Lake remains frozen throughout the winter season.

Nearest Airport To Dharamshala

The nearest airport to Dharamshala is Kangra domestic airport also called Gaggal Airport is 15 km from Dharamshala. Kangra airport is connected to Delhi airport and has regular flights. This airport is not suitable for travelers from other parts of India. The other nearest domestic airport is Chandigarh located in the Haryana state of India. The majority of the tourist prefers Chandigarh airport and then travel by road to Dharamshala.

Weather In Dharamshala

Dharamshala experiences all three seasons i.e. summer, winter, and monsoon. The summer season is from March to May and temperature ranges between 22 degrees Celsius to 35 degrees Celsius. The monsoon season is from July to October and experiences heavy rain in Dharamshala. The temperature ranges between 20 degrees Celsius to 25 Degree Celsius. It is not a suitable time to visit Dharamshala. The winter season in Dharamshala is the coolest, freezing, and has snowfall.

Best Time To Visit Dharamshala

The best time to visit Dharamshala is from March to May. During this time the temperature is warmer as compared to the other season and pleasant. The majority of the tourist visit Dharamshala during the summer season.

Snowfall In Dharamshala

There is snowfall in Dharamshala in the winter season as the temperature reaches 0 Degree Celsius to -1 Degrees Celsius. It is also the best time to visit Dharamshala and experience the snowfall and chilled temperature. The majority of the tourist come to Dharamshala to experience the snowfall in the winter season.
