The Worst Experience Of Weather during Travel

November month is monsoon season in Kerala. We faced worst experience of weather in Trivandrum due to heavy rain. We chose November month for the trip because the weather condition in Maharashtra is pleasant as there is no rain and no heat. But We did not study the weather condition of Kerala state.

This article is my experience of travelling without studying the weather condition of the region where you are going.

Netravati Express: The train started at the right time of 11.40 from Mumbai and was supposed to reach after 30 hour to Trivandrum at 18.00 hour on the next day. The distance between Mumbai to Trivandrum is 1804 km. The Konkan region through which train runs is very beautiful. There are number of tunnels, bridges, bays on the road side, greenery and is amazing experience of train travel.

Heavy Rain Delayed Train: In Mumbai the weather condition was very good. There was no cloud and no rain. The weather in the middle region between Maharashtra and Kerala was also good. But as we were reaching the Kerala state, it started raining heavily, which we did not expect. The good weather changed into bad weather. The Netravati Express runs through the costal western India linking Mumbai to the Konkan region of Goa and Mangalore. The heavy rain resulted in a landslide and water logging in the railway track. Due to that, we reached Trivandrum very late at 2 am in the night on the third day instead of 18.00 hr on the second day.

Water, Water And Water Everywhere: When we reached at the Trivandrum station and came out for going to the hotel. What we saw that it was not raining but water, water and water everywhere. There was absolutely no traffic on the road. The road was not visible. The street light along the road side was turned off. Now we were worried about how to go and find the hotel at night and that also in an unknown place. We did not have any advance booking of the hotel.

Should Have Waited At The Railway StationBut Did Not : I told my idea to other members that we would wait till morning at the station, and then we would go. When I am going with my family and suppose I reach late at night at unknown places. I always wait till the morning. The station is the safest place. But when you are with other members, you have to follow their idea. The other members did not like my idea and were interested in finding the hotel at night and with water on the road.

Paid Higher Charges To Rickshaw For Searching Hotel At Night: I myself, my friend and one young boy from Trivandrum came out of the station to search the hotel. There were rickshaws parked in front of the railway station. We asked many rickshaw drivers to show us the hotel, but nobody was ready, and it was also not possible to drive the rickshaw through the water. Then the boy took us to the back side of the station. On frequent request and on higher charges, one rickshaw driver got ready to come.

Booked The Hotel But Rickshaw Driver Refused Again Going To Hotel: The driver showed one or two hotels at a distance of approximately 3 km from the railway station. After reaching there we booked from these, as we were not in a position to search for more hotels. After that, we returned to the station to take other people and our luggage to the hotel. But now the rickshaw driver refused to come back to the hotel even at extra cost.

Police Offices Helped For Getting Rickshaw Without Understanding The Language: We all people came out of the station along with our luggage. We saw there was a police van near the station. We approached the police personals and requested help for hiring the vehicle up to the hotel. Sometimes we were talking in Hindi or in little English. They did not understand both languages. What he was talking about we did not understand. But he understood our problem without communication of any language. He ordered one rickshaw driver to go to the hotel.

Only Five People And Luggage Adjusted In The Rickshaw: In the rickshaw only 5 people were adjusted along with our luggage. To adjust the sixth person in the rickshaw was not possible. Then it was decided that the rickshaw would come back after dropping the luggage and people to the hotel. I waited and waited at the station for a long time, but not a rickshaw came nor any person came to pick me up.

I Walked Through 3 To 4 Feet-Hight Waters At Night: Then I decided to go by walking through the water at night. There was not sufficient light on the road due to the rain. There was one suitcase with me having a weight of approximately 25 kg. I put the suitcase on my head. As I started walking, the level of the water on the road was nearly 3 to 4 feet. And it was not possible to see what was under water on the road.

The Walking Through Water Was Dangerous: There may be a drainage opening or may be a snake or any other thing. That walking was really dangerous. I was walking slowly, step by step. Finally, I reached the hotel in that situation. When I reached the hotel, all the people were waiting for me at the gate of the hotel. They told that “The rickshaw driver was not ready to come back again to the station”.

Why This Happened: We studied the weather condition in Maharashtra. It was Good. But we had not studied the weather condition in Kerala state. Kerala has two monsoon season, one is from June to August and second from October to November. It is better to avoid travel in monsoon season. Otherwise will have to face the problem as we faced.
