Travelling gives us enjoyment, energy and happiness. To capture all these things your health is incredibly important. You should not be sick during the travel. Otherwise, your trip will not be enjoyable. How to take care of your health during the travel is depends on you. I travelled a lot and observed some important tips for better health through my experience. I am listing these tips for your benefits so that you can enjoy the trip healthy and happily.
Travel With Medicines
Before going on my travel, I am going to my family doctor and asking for the medicine required to carry with me. I observed that the doctor prescribe the medicine for omitting, stomach related problems, fever, painkiller, antiseptic and bandage. I am keeping this medicine in one box so that it could be found easily at any place on the journey. If somebody takes routine medicine, then carry it because there is a possibility that the medicine you are taking will not get in the region in which you are going.
If You Are Sick – What To Do
Then see the doctor. Once, when I was in Darjiling of Uttarakhand state of India. My daughter when she was 15 years old ate ice cream in the cold region and got a fever. Then we decided to see the doctor. The doctor gave the medicine and advised complete rest. After that, another day when we started our further journey, we were in constant touch with the doctor and followed the instruction. She completely recovered.
Take Minimum Luggage
Before going on a trip, I prepare the list of items which I have to take with me. I am taking the items which are necessary and making a small pack. So that it can be easily lifted and carried anywhere. The small pack will not be a burden on the body. Because I have to carry the luggage. Minimum luggage will make your trip stress free. I want to enjoy the trip and not the inconvenience with luggage. If you have too many packages, then you have to watch all packages at every place.
Eat Local And Seasonal Fruit
While travelling, the best thing to rely on is the fruit. Mostly I am eating local and seasonal fruit of that region instead of the fruit coming from other regions. They are easily available and easily digested and can provide instant energy to your body. Also, fruits provide the nutrition required for your body and keep the body healthy. You will not feel tired.
Drink More Water
To keep a healthy body during travel, drink a lot of water at a regular interval to avoid dehydration. That becomes important when you are in a hot climate or cold climate. Water flushes your body toxin and keeps your skin fresh. You will not have to face weakness, low blood pressure and dizziness during your travel.
Prefer Bottle Water
When I left the house, I refilled the water from my house. When the house water finishes, I purchase a water bottle. I prefer a water bottle as compared to tap water or open water . The main problem of the health arises from water as compared to food. The water must be free of contaminant that could make you sick. Some time tap water is unsafe or unavailable. But when I am in the Himalaya in India, I always drink resource water. It is the best water to drink.
Say No To Alcohol
While on travel or at the destination, I am not consuming alcohol. Alcohol can dehydrate you. If you cannot drink enough water with alcohol, you can become dehydrated quickly. Alcohol removes water and important nutrition from your body. Some time it causes vomiting, headache and acidity, and you will not feel fresh the next morning. If you want to stay safe and enjoy the trip, then say no to alcohol. Also it decreases the ability of thinking.
Wash Your Hand Regularly
To maintain health during travel, always wash your hand regularly with soap. Mainly before taking your food and coming out of the washroom. If possible, apply antiseptic with water. You can help yourself to stay healthy by washing your hands regularly. It is one of the best ways to remove germs and avoid sickness.
Prefer Local Food
If you want a happy journey without sickness, then take good quality local food that will provide you with energy and nutrition. I always take local food of that region. It is easy to digest. The locals are very conversant in preparing that food. The idli is famous in south India, but if you try in north India. You will get it, but the quality will not be good enough. I choose the hotel or restaurant or street food where there is a rush of people. Because people know the places where good quality of food is available.
Eat Light Food
While on travel I always take light food which can be easily digested. I am not taking non-vegetarian food like mutton or chicken or fish. Some time I prefer the egg among the non-vegetarian food. Also, I am avoiding spicy and oily food. The benefit of Vegetarian food is that it provides nutrition to the body. Non- vegetarian food if it is very old then possibility of causing health problems.
Take A Rich Snack And Dry Fruit With You
When you are on a journey and not getting a hotel on the road for lunch, and you are hungry then try some snacks which are available with you. If possible, use a snack prepared in the house that you can carry for yourself. Or dry fruit is also one of the better options. If you are a diabetic patient then you must carry the snack or dry fruits. Some times it may delayed for your lunch on the road.
Take Your Regular Exercise
I always take walking exercise daily. I follow these exercise while on my journey. That is the best way to mix and interact with the local people. If you like cycling, then take the cycle on rent and go. If you are doing yoga, then do it. If you like the gym, then go for your workout. But do it. Exercise will keep your body energetic throughout the day.
Go Early To Bed
Going early to the bed means taking sufficient sleep. When you are on a journey, your body and mind get exertion. Give the rest to the body and mind by taking sufficient sleep. Good sleep is beneficial for your immune system and better mood. Next morning you will feel fresh. Sleep is important for our physical and mental health.
If possible, Avoid The Night Road journey.
I am not interested in the night travel. Especially on the hilly road area, it is risky. I got a very bad experience of a night journey traveling from Phuentsholing to Thimpu in Bhutan. I restricted me not to travel beyond 8.00 pm. Your body is in need of rest, it reduces concentration in the night and also light from the vehicle coming from the opposite direction increases the risk.
Do Not Go To A Remote Area
Be remembering that not all destinations are as safe as your home. Some time remote travel involves a degree of risk. I am not going to a remote area. If there are people, then only I am going there. If some bad thing happens to you at an unknown destination, then you can call people for help. Otherwise, it will take time to evacuate you.
